CU$ Surcharge-Free

Now Your Members Have a Choice

Your Association has led the fight against ATM surcharges as a consumer rights issue. To help credit union members avoid ATM surcharges, more than 400 credit unions in ten states have joined together to form the ATM Surcharge-Free Alliance.

This alliance, known as CU$®, allows members from participating credit unions to access their credit union accounts at ATMs owned by credit unions in the alliance without incurring a surcharge.

The network was established through a joint effort of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association and Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU).

While the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association believes that ATM surcharges are penalties on consumers, we’ve been unable to have legislation passed to have surcharges either regulated or eliminated. Working with PSECU, we have formed a "surcharge-free" ATM alliance for members of participating credit unions.

CU$ is the credit union response to ATM surcharging. This initiative represents another example of the cooperative spirit that has come to define the credit union movement.

The CU$ alliance offers members surcharge-free ATM transactions at over 1,200 ATMs.


How to Find a CU$ ATM

Members should look for the "CU$" logo on any credit union ATM.

How to Become a Member

The requirements to join the CU$ Surcharge-Free Alliance are simple. All you have to do is be a credit union. It doesn’t matter what state you are in or even your membership size. If you are a credit union, you are eligible. If your credit union owns ATMs, you will be required to add your ATMs to the CU$ Surcharge-Free Alliance.

If you are interested in becoming a participating credit union, you will need to allow 4-6 weeks to process your membership.
